DESCRIPTION:Please join us for the third and final presentation in our 2021
  virtual DG Footlights™ series\, celebrating new dramatic works in progress
 ! This virtual reading will present The Scholarship by Cristina A. Bejan & 
 James Brunt. \n \n\nSynopsis: The Scholarship is a new play written and per
 formed by Denver spoken word poets and playwrights Brunt Poetry (James Brun
 t) and Lady Godiva (Cristina A. Bejan). Conceived as a protest play inspire
 d by the Black Lives Matter and Rhodes Must Fall movements\, The Scholarshi
 p aims to educate about the troubling history of racist and imperialist dia
 mond tycoon Cecil Rhodes and the Oxford postgraduate scholarship establishe
 d in his name\, and illustrate that what the scholarship has become (despit
 e so many progressive changes and mutations) in no way justifies the Rhodes
  Trust’s insistence to continue to use the Rhodes name. The play’s final li
 ne captures the genuine motive of the playwrights: “Let’s find a name of a 
 Rhodes Scholar whose name we can celebrate\, or simply call the most famous
  scholarship in the world... The Scholarship.” \n \n\nThe play will run 45 
 minutes to one hour without intermission\, followed by a 15-20 minute talkb
 ack.\n\n \n\nDG Footlights™ is a program\, created and moderated by the Dra
 matists Guild\, that connects dramatists with free space in which to hold a
  public reading of a new work that is currently in development. This initia
 tive operates on a space-grant model: a representative from the Guild will 
 arrange for a venue to donate space during allocated dates and times\, and 
 will ensure that the space is available for dramatists to use to present a 
 self-produced reading to the public\, with an optional feedback session fol
 lowing the reading. Attendance is always free and open to all.\n\n \n\nJeff
