Join SCRiB LAB for a Playwriting Mini-Summit in Seattle! Anyone living and working in Seattle who writes for the stage is welcomed to attend.

Saturday, June 24, 2023
PST: 4pm (with optional Seattle Writers Salon beginning at 2pm)

Let’s gather to discuss the current state of the Seattle playwriting community. All stakeholders are invited to participate, including individual artists and institutional leaders. Come early to hear local writers of all genres read their work (and playwrights: sign up to read as well!); stay late to join us for a community meal at a local restaurant. This is an evening for all of us to gather, connect, share, and strategize.

The goal of this mini-summit is to dream big! Where does the playwriting community want to go next? How can we collaborate across groups to get there? Let's be intentional about our hopes and make the connections to start meeting the future.

Tentative Agenda (subject to change):

*2pm: Seattle Writers Salon (5-10 minute readings by writers)
4pm: Drinks, nibbles, social hour
4:30pm: Official welcome and address by Miriam and invited guests
5pm: Open theatre writers forum to discuss:

  • What could a future Seattle playwriting community look like?
  • Which institutions, groups, and individuals are doing the work now?
  • How can we partner across communities to continue doing new work?
  • What are the current challenges to doing new work?
  • How can we address those challenges?
  • What are our next steps?

7pm: Closing address
*7:30pm: Dinner at nearby restaurant

* not officially part of Summit but attendees are welcome to participate
